  • In Athens we stayed at the Divani Palace Acropolis, a 5-star gem in the midst of crumbling, run-down urbanity near the foot of the Acropolis plateau.

  • A fancy eclair at the hotel's rooftop restaurant. The presentation was impressive. The taste was okay.

  • We encountered an unexpected aspect of Greek culture at the hotel. While attempting to use the pool the afternoon of our arrival, we were informed that it was closed from 2:30-5:30 for "siesta", per Greek law.
  • It rained a lot while we were in Athens. Like, a LOT. The streets became rivers due to inadequate drainage systems.
  • I was amused to see Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes with Greek subtitles in the hotel lounge. My favorite Holmes.
